CARNIVAL GLASS SALE!

THIS WEEK WE ARE OFFERING CARNIVAL GLASS MADE BY FENTON, IMPERIAL, NORTHWOOD, DUGAN, JEANNETTE, SOWERBY of ENGLAND AND JAIN of INDIA.

ALL PHOTOGRAPHED IN NATURAL DAYLIGHT.

OUR PHOTOS ARE NEVER ENHANCED.

Offered for your bidding pleasure is a Blackberry Spray hat vase with a ruffled candy ribbon edge in Fenton’s vaseline carnival glass with marigold iridescent overlay. For collectors of this charming old pattern this one is just a bit different from the usual. The ruffled candy ribbon edge is not often seen, nor is the vaseline base glass. It’s not “very rare”, but it’s far from dead common either. It will be awhile before you see another one quite like it. It has heavy marigold iridescence, hence the body does not glow under black light, the rim edges do show a weak glow but the uniridized base glows green very strongly. This old beauty is 5 3/4″ in diameter, 3 1/2″ in height and stands on 2 5/8″ circular base.

This piece is in very good condition with no cracks or repairs. It has a very teeny tiny chip and some flea bites along the base as shown in picture #12. It’s not very noticeable, frankly we’ve owned this piece for many years and never noticed it until it was photographed for this sale. Please refer to our pictures for closer details of this lovely item. Please note: Pieces of antique (100 yr old) carnival glass may have certain flaws and imperfections which do not exist in modern glassware. Antique Carnival Glass may have none, some or all of the following: just a few or many air bubbles of various sizes, inclusions (ash, cinders, etc.), “straw marks” (actually shear marks), tool marks, worn, missing or pooled iridescence, heat checks (internal fissures caused by uneven cooling); rough seams, extra glass at seams or webbing between edge points. This glass was produced a century ago in less than clean environments before Quality Control existed. It was cut with cold shears often producing what is commonly referred to as “straw marks”. It was then hand pressed into moulds that did eventually wear out, thus lessening detail. Finally, it was hand-sprayed with metallic salts and sometimes refired for effect. Edge treatments such as ruffles, candy ribbon, pie crust or 3-in-1 were all hand shaped with various tools which often left tool marks. Keep in mind that these manufacturing imperfections are commonplace in antique carnival glass.

We value our customers very much. It is our policy to promptly ship very clean, well packed glass and to always represent our carnival glass as honestly as possible via description and detailed close-up photography. Payment is expected within 3 days of the ing. We ship to you via USPS Priority Mail ASAP after receiving your payment; usually within 24 hours. We can combine multiple purchases (within reason) to save you excess shipping costs.

Thanks for looking and the best of luck on all of your bids!
