is a very large carved wood and white celadon jade ceremonial scepter (ruyi). The ruyi is carved of a dark hardwood terminating in a large lingzhi-shaped head. The ruyi is inlaid with three reticulated carved jade plaques. Each plaque features a dragon among wish fulfilling trees.
Included in the pictures is a picture from the Sotheby’s owned auction house catalogue where the scepter was purchased. A prominent asian arts expert has verified that the plaques are jade. The plaques are carved in an old, primitive style. Please judge the age of the piece yourself.
The scepter measures approximately 19.5 inches long (49.53 cm). It is in very good condition. The plaques were at one-time glued into place and now appear to be attached with double-sided adhesive. The piece is very sturdy and displays beautifully.
