of this screen domestically will cost about $150.00 (via UPS, oversized), Cost to China will cost about $600.00 (via DHL)…regardless of what the calculator states!

Description : A very beautiful c.1900 Chinese four panel screen, a nice size, with it measuring about 58″ wide x 58″ tall. Each panel is about 14 1/2″ wide, the eight inset porcelain panels on the top and bottom are about 10″ tall x 7″ wide, the four smaller panels affixed to the front of the wood screen are about 6 1/2″ x 6 1/2″. The four panel screen is carved from Hongmu Rosewood. The top crests with intricate pediments of florals and vines. Each porcelain panel is framed off by relief carved wooden panels with bats in each corner. The back of the screen are wooden panels which hold the tiles in place.

Each porcelain panel is hand panted in enamel paint hard fired and each depicts a scene involving family life, each I am sure with it’s own folk law story.  The quality of the painting is very high, you can see each with wonderful detail, I took some nice close up shots which show the detail off well and some high resolution shot which enlarge quite big to see all the detail also…

This is a wonderful and rare screen, it is from the late Qing period, early Republic period. The high bidder will be very satisfied with their purchase…A similar screen just recently sold at a California auction house for nearly $20,000….Bid well and bid high, you will be glad you did!

Size : Overall it is 58″ tall x 58″ wide, each section is about 14 1/2″ wide x 58″ tall, Each porcelain panel is 10″ tall x 7″ wide, the smaller ones in the center are about 6 1/2″.

Age : C.1900-1930

Click here for Age/ Date Chart

Condition : All porcelain panels are free from damage, no chips, cracks or repairs. It appears one of the small panel may have come off at one time and was reglued back on a little off center….otherwise just some normal wear to the surface of the wood, some small checks here and there….You can see the back side is made up of panels that hold the tiles in place…some are split where the screws are just from age from expansion and contraction…I photoed the worse. It is hardly an issue and is expected, I see this on all the old screens. Also a few of the screws are broken off and can be removed with a pair of pliers if need be…We will take the screen apart to package properly and remove the broken screws and replace with some new ones for you….this is not an issue and is not a need of concern…overall the high bidder will be very happy with their purchase. This is a fabulous piece of ealry 20th C. Chinese Art.
