NR * Antique 1877 Victorian Religious Shadowbox Crucifix “Thy Kingdom Come”

………..A beautiful 3D Antique Dated 1877 shadowbox arrangement depicting the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ and his life. This piece was designed to celebrate the Jubilee, the 50th year anniversary celebration of Pope Pius IX's ordination as a Bishop. The manufacture of the shadowbox was blessed by the Pope who served from 1846 – 1877. Accordingly, anyone who mediated and prayed on the themes of the Crucifixion and resurrection would receive 100 days indulgence. The plaque inside the box reads: "Thy Kingdom Come 100 Days Indulgence Each Time Pius IX, 14th June 1877". Inside of the box is lined in silk. The background is a lithograph showing Mary and Joseph kneeling at the foot of the cross. There is a hand carved wooden cross, the Jesus and symbolic items around are made of brass, the tassel and lamp that hang from the cross are swivel around, while the other items are glued down. The entire arrangement is on top of a large stone like artifact, there is faux flowers on the ground. The pieces around the cross are all symbols of Jesus' life as a carpenter and of his crucifixion. All of the pieces are present and in place. The frame is a beautiful wood and composite gilded frame with raised floral elements, the frame shows wear and finish loss, please see pictures for details. The back of the shadowbox has its original cover paper with some rips. Considering the age of this piece, I am surprise it still in this condition, the piece is over 130 years old, and pretty solid and stable. The viewable image or frontal opening size is 13 3/4" x 9 1/2". The overall framed size is 21" x 17" x 3" deep, it has the original glass on the front. The entire arrangement weights almost 6 lb.
