Great and real American folk art carved wood weathervane depicting a pheasant bird ca 1890-1900. The work still has some of its original paint and was probably used on a game bird farm. It retains its original ball but the directional are gone. It sits on its original rod and wood mount that was cut from where ever it once stood. There is a very old repair by the birds feet, it most have fallen and was repaired and a set of new holes added so it can continue to be used. The work has a wonderful sculptural presence and is mounted on a black wood base. Surviving wood period weathervanes are hard to find and game bird forms are unusual. Please take a look at the many photos below so you can see many views of the work. It measures without the 2″H base, 42″H x 15″W x 1″D, bird measures 15″W x 20″H. The bird was found in Vermont and was in a private collection for many years. If you should have please feel free to email me.
