Antique 18th Century Dutch Velvet & Silver Chatelaine Bag

Description:
Bags were worn by men and then by women to contains small miscellaneous items
but they were certainly a much used fashion accessory for woman.
The content was keys, writing equipment, mirrors, sewing implements
and whatever necessary for a woman daily life.
This is a wonderful Dutch 18th century example in great condition
and hallmarked for Amsterdam, 1740.
It is a soft black velvet chatelaine purse/bag with
cast and chased silver mounts and silver chain and waist plaque.
The soft black velvet exterior is in good condition with no holes or damage.
The interior silk lining is more delicate and is a little bit deteriorating with age but it is still very pretty.
It is nearly 20 cm tall (without the chatelaine) by 22 cm at the widest part.
The frame has raised intricate detail of laying cherubs and it opens up completely.
It is in . It is fully hallmarked on the inside
with the silver hallmark for Amsterdam, 1740 and the maker’s initials VD within an oval.
On the other side of the frame it reads *MAB*.
The owner’s initials *TV* in silver are sewed on the front of the bag.
The clasp is properly working.
