17″ Antique German SonnebergType Papier Mache Doll

17″ Antique German SonnebergType Papier Mache Doll

This sweet lady has had alot of love during her long lifetime.  She was born about 1880-1890 in Germany.  The papier mache head has painted blond hair and blue eyes…the paint is worn and chipped, but all looks original with no repaint, and she has retained her “Mona Lisa” smile .  There is a small crack in the finish across the throat (does not appear to go through the papier mache, just the finish on top).  The cloth body has been patched and repatched by the look of it, including long black stockings sewn to her legs, with little black velvet shoes sewn on her feet (this was done quite awhile ago, the toes and seams are worn). She has leather hands (small hole in left palm).  No markings, but there is a spot on the back of the shoulderplate where a sticker or something was, maybe a “Superior” sticker?  She has long pantaloons trimmed with crochetted lace, and a petticoat with ruffle (one small hole in ruffle). Her blue dress exactly matches the lighter blue color in her eyes.  It is a very lightweight cotton, with gathering around the neckline, long sleeves, sewn in waistband, and two tiny buttons to close it in the back.  There is a thin stain line along the bottom of the back of the dress, but otherwise it is in pretty good condition, and suits her nicely. (The color of the dress in the first picture is a more intense blue than it actually is, see the other pictures of the doll in the dress for a better idea of the true color). She is a nice size to hold and to display. Please ask questions, no refunds offered.  to USA and Canada only.  fee includes insurance.
