1880-1910 “Double X” Antique Quilt

Great colors & prints dating this pretty quilt between 1880-1910. The quilt pattern is called Double X, made from 100% cotton fabrics with the back made from old sugar sacks. It measures 77″ x 63″, was pieced completely by hand. 10 1/2″ blocks of indigo’s, burgundy & cranberry, blacks & gray, and reddish browns are separated by 2″ wide sashing. The colors are still nice & bright & remain unfaded. It’s still in very good condition with only a few issues: there is wear in areas near the binding in the border, probaby from use on a bed. I found some small wear spots in one block. There are a couple of old stains… all of which I’ve pictured for you.
There is 1″ diagonal line quilting in the border, with a 1″ grid design in the sashing. 1/2″ horizontal lines are quilted through the blocks, all with 7 spi, which isn’t too bad given the denseness of the fabric & batting. This lovely old quilt will display well for you.

Gramma knitted, crocheted, & quilted but being a “lefty”, I could never get the hang of knitting or crocheting so I learned to quilt & applique. My love of quilts & antiques comes honestly. I still collect but I’ve had to set new rules for myself… “If I buy one more quilt, one has to be sold”. There’s just not enough room anymore!
Four years ago I decided to leave a 25 year career in Human Resources Management & do something for myself… spend more time with family & friends, garden when this Ohio weather allows, & hunt for quilts, vintage clothing & hats, & other antiques.
