WONDERFUL ANTIQUE VASELINE GLASS COMPOTE CIRCA LATE 1890’s – PATTERN – HEARTS & SPADES
You are a wonderful piece of the past. This was a fabulous Estate find and is very good condition for its age. The yellow/chartreuse color is very clear and even without the black light on it, you can tell it is Vaseline / Uranium Glass. The measurements are approximately 7 1/2 inches tall, 6 7/8 inches across (front to back – more intricate design), 7 3/4 inches wide (side to side). The base measures approximately 5 inches across (side to side) and 4 3/8 inches (front to back) the bowl is a approximately 2 inches deep.
I have noted the few minor blemishes with this piece in pictures and there are very few considering the age. The offset if a manufacturer’s defect and not really noticable when standing, but you can see it if you flip it over and therefore I have made notes of anything I found so a buyer would not be surprised. I found this in a book several years ago, but the maker is listed as unknown. It listed a compote with a lid and one without. The appraiser that I took it to, said she believed this one to be the one without, since due to the shape it would have had a lip for the lid to fit securely and it does not have a lip. The value was over $200.
This is a wonderful piece to add to any collection or stand alone.
