This is an early brass skater’s lantern that is held by a chain as shown in the photo. The top of the brass part of the lantern has a patent date. It is marked: PAT’D DEC.24.1887 which can be seen in a photo. There are no dents that I can see to the lantern. Some tarnish, but, the brass lantern is in great condition. No damage to the base of the lamp as shown in a photo. The wick adjustment wheel is embossed: HURRICANE LANTERN CO. N.Y. The lantern has a globe in it, and, the globe is in great shape. It is a light sun-colored globe. The globe has embossing on it which reads: PAT 5 APRIL 1864. There is no stain to the globe. The top of the globe is ground as well as the bottom. There are no splits in the brass anywhere on the lantern. The top of the lantern has an original wire mesh inside the top. From the top of the lantern to the base it is 8 7/8″ tall. The base is 3 1/2″ across. The chain is approximately 6 1/2″ long. This is truly a great early American brass skater’s lantern with two dates.
