EBAY THIS BADGE IS ANTIQUE OVER 100 YEARS OLD AND NOT USED BY ANY CURRENT LAW ENFORCMENT AGENCY.
Here is a nice late 19th century police badge. This one is a stock generic badge in that it cannot be identified with any particular municipality. It is typical of many badges that saw use in the west in many growing and developing towns and mining camps of the west. Not until a town reached a level of permanence and wealth did you see Id’d badges. If they reached a level of wealth like Leadville or Cripple Creek or Butte or Lead did you see the gold and silver presentation badges that are the apex of the badge collecting community.
This badge is stamped construction (no cast like the lagenbacker or Walter Kuhn fakes, any W.K. marked badges are fake ) It apears to be german silver as typical of many badges of the period. Hand stamped decoration and title with blacking, which much has worn away. Front shows surface wear and scratches as typical and what is to be expected. These badges were worn every day. . The safety pin on back is brass with nickle plating which has worn away in the areas it would be drawn through the clothing fabric. Pin shows being repaired a few times and crudly with lead. Again what is to be expected of an actually used badge. Edge of the badge shows the minute serations you expect to see of the stamping process as the metal badge blank is cut by the die. Balls are stamped with hollow backs. I fully gurantee this badge for life. It is one I have had in my collection however I have moved into the Colorado presentation pieces. This badges measures just a hair over 2 1/2 inches. If you have a great colt rig or antique shooting iron this would be great piece to go with it. Thanks for looking!
