This is an akaimari ceramic sake cup, or sakazuki. It dates to about 1820, and is very small, an appropriate size for a serving of strong sake. The outside features a bird in flight on two sides in the center of a red orange lattice design.
It measures 2″ across by 2″ tall (5 x 5 cm). Despite its age, having been in storage for nearly two centuries, with exception to some wear to the gold on the rim it is in as seen in the enlarged pictures. A great way to enjoy your evening sake.
