Silver Mechanical Pencil / Dog Seal

This handsome
antique sliding
pencil is silver plated and has
a hexagonal barrel with all over scrolling engraving. A ring on the
barrel pushes
out the
nozzle for use.
The
nozzle has all
of its parts and is in excellent working order (twists out the
lead). The
finial is set with a black seal that has been engraved with the
intaglio image of a dog and a bird. The dog looks like a retriever type
of breed and he’s looking up at the bird. The top unscrews
to store extra leads and it holds a size 0.9 lead.
The condition
is excellent with no dents or other damage.
It
measures 2 1/2″ closed & 3 1/8″ extended and has no
personalization. There is a jump ring on the barrel to attach it to a
watch chain or chatelaine. Several

this

shown on
pp. 68-69 of Deborah Crosby’s book Victorian
Pencils.
