For auction is an AM 1952 Zenith Model L515W, chassis 5L06. This is a beautiful and well-designed art deco radio. This radio is fully functional including the clock, alarm and sleep timer.
The radio sensitivity is very high and the output is loud and clear. The number of stations will vary by your proximity to larger cities. As is true with all AM radios, reception depends on location as well as the interference generated within your home.
The photographs illustrate the tear down process, the cleaned chassis and the components replaced. The following is a comprehensive list of restoration work:
•Cleaned upper and lower circuit chassis with CRC Electronic Cleaner and alcohol
•Cleaned interior/exterior of case and polished with Maguires PlastX and Maguire Ultimate Protectant
•Cleaned/lubricated the volume potentiometer and the variable tuning capacitor with DeoxIT D5
•Replaced all wax and out-of-spec capacitors
•Soldering performed by aerospace trained rework technician. Solder flux removed from all new connections to ensure no cold solder joints.
•Replaced all tubes. Tubes installed were tested with a calibrated B&K 500 Tube Tester.
•I.F. transformers peaked for maximum sensitivity
•Clock was removed from chassis, cleaned, lubricated and functionality ensured.
•Radio was burned-in for 8 hours to ensure that no intermittent conditions exist
Unit has a couple of very light surface scratches which do not show up well in photos but do not detract from the radio. The rear cover was extensively repaired and painted.
