Rare 19th century to early 20th century, child’s sword made like the real thing, but smaller, and not sharpened or sharp pointed. 100% sturdy metal construction with wood handle. I have been a toy and militaria collector for over 40 years, and have only seen three of these. I bought them all, and here they are now at auction. Based upon old photographs, postcards, and posters, I date all three here circa 1885 to just before WW 1. Please note in the group photo of all three, the framed antique photo (about to be listed) showing two young German boys wearing similar swords. The vintage bugle there is also child size. One of my swords was made in Germany, and is so marked. They were also made in the USA, Britian, and other countries. This sword is very well made, and I believe it to be American, but don’t know. Please share what you know with all of us. I could find no marks on this one, but that is not unusual with old toys. The handle is a hard, dark wood. The hand guard “basket”is sturdy steel. There is a nearly invisible hairline crack in one of the “basket” side pieces, but nothing serious. The blade is heavy and strong, with “blood grooves” on each side. It is well worn, with several dings, stains, and some light pitting. This is a real conversation piece in either a toy, military, or weapon, collection. Cross Collectible X 3 or more.
