Over the years I have seen thousands of brown top Bristol glazed jugs, hundreds of advertising jugs and dozens of local pieces but I have never found one with the top! Absolutely original, the screw on stoneware stopper has a flake to one of the threads but it still fits perfectly. Promoting Julius Gottfried’s wholesale liquor business, it dates to the early 1900’s. Most likely made by Monmouth Western, it remains in . Some minor crazing has developed and there is some wear at the rim but there are no chips, cracks or repairs. There is a lightly glazed spot at the shoulder and a few small glaze pops but nothing unusual for 100 year old stoneware. Measuring 7.5″ tall and 4″ wide, the imprint is clear as day. Mr. Gottfried came to the US from Germany at age 6, bounced around in the hotel/tavern business for years before finding success in Carnegie, PA.
