Description
This is a majestic piece of genuine Art Nouveau adornment from around 1900.
It tests as 14ct ROSE gold, but it has an interior gilt carcass for strength, and rather than being a ‘front & back’ construction, it appears to be a MIXTURE of construction styles.
The front seems to be a shell or solid gold panel, with intricate deep, rich engraving and ornate embossing to the border.
The REAR appears to be gold FILLED, or thickly rolled 14ct gold, having a subtle, wavy, ornate design.
This really DOES have to be seen in ‘life’ to be truly appreciated as no amount of images can capture and portray the beauty and splendour that it possesses in the ‘flesh’!
It is inset with sapphire PASTES in the form of a shamrock or clover.
It measures 3.3cms long including the bale and 2.9cms in diameter. It weighs a chunky 7.1 grams on my scales.
It opens to reveal compartments, suitable for storing and displaying photographs, locks of hair or other such personal keepsakes. It is complete with retaining rims to both sides and an acrylic ‘glazed’ panel to one.
It is a beautiful and most endearing locket in a very good condition.
Unquestionably collectable and unequivocally desirable, it non-the-less appears here in this NO RESERVE, NO CATCHES auction.
