SIGNED 18th Century Wrought Iron Scissors Shears Early Antique No Reserve

Description:

18th Century Wrought Iron Scissors Shears Early Antique Examples

All blacksmith made, these hand wrought iron scissors date circa 1740-1770, with almost identical examples depicted in George Nuemann’s book "Early American Antique Country Furnishings" (Page 309, fig 1354).

Scissors such as these carried out numerous functions in an early home, from cutting wool off sheep to tailoring clothing, leatherworking, etc.

This example is open and moves freely. With an edge I’m sure they’d probably function as well as they did 200 years ago.

The set measures approximately 7 1/2" in length.

From age there is some slight pitting to the surface, some light expected oxidation, though overall a fine set, certainly one that would make a great addition to any colonial era collection as they have a fine patina.

This set is signed with an "S" impressed in on both sides.

Take a moment to ‘click’ on one of the pictures and you’ll see you can produce great enlargements of original construction, note the great center rivet, also a faint bearing of some stamped makers name.
