This is a SUPERIOR NEAR MINT example of a VERY RARE Seth Thomas Mantle Clock in wonderful 100% ALL ORIGINAL condition. It is a very classy mantle clock in need of a warm loving home. It was made circa1910. It has a RARE QUARTER HOUR STRIKE signed “Seth Thomas Clock Co” 8-day time and strike movement which chimes every 15 minutes (4 times each hour) with a double count (2 on the 15 – 4 on the half – and 6 on the 45 minute mark) and counts the hours on the hour on A DOUBLE HIGH QUALITY GONG with a mellow, beautiful sound – the movement strikes with a double strike sometime called bim-bam strike pattern. It is a very strong runner! The movement runs very well and keeps good time.
The movement runs very well and keeps good time.
The movement was just cleaned, oiled, pivots polished and bushings added where needed. This clock will not need servicing for many years to come, and is ready for the next 100 years! This is a labor intensive service, with many clockmakers charging 250.00 and up.
We recommend having it oiled every 2 to 3 years to keep it in tip-top shape! With the purchase of this clock for an additional $ 2.25 we will include an oiler kit with a professional oiler loaded with enough oil to oil approximately 50 clocks with easy instructions so you could even do it yourself!
The Seth Thomas Clock Company was started in 1820 and has been known for making high quality clocks. With this clock being no exception. The case is also extremely beautiful with its original finish! It is in beautiful/near mint condition with even the original finish made of mahogany with a fancy rare design.
This clock was made when people took great pride in their work. I doubt if the clock has been worked on much as the screws and screw holes for the movement are tight, with no additional screw holes. The dial is all-original and as perfect as an original dial can be. It has an adjustment for fast and slow on the dial which can be turned by the small end of the large Seth Thomas key, this way you don’t need to take the clock down from its shelf to adjust it for slow and fast. The metal around the dial (solid brass) is original and is aged to a very beautiful patina (no extra screw holes – no dents etc.). The hands are original (see picture). The back door is original and perfect – fits correctly and the snap works well. The movement is signed (see picture).
Complete with its Seth Thomas heavy pendulum and its large Seth Thomas double ended key! Runs really great! The clock measures 9 ½ inches high, 6 ½ inches deep and 20 ½ inches wide. These antique clocks amaze me – could you imagine any other consumer product still working after nearly 100 years! And the truly amazing thing with proper care they will work easily past the next 100 years, with this clock going well beyond that! If you are looking for a rare and high quality antique clock that looks like it was cherished its whole life – this is it!
Antique Clocks are a Fine Investment. Each one has a unique quality, as well as appreciating in value and beauty with age. Antique clocks serve many purposes other than being useful in telling time, decorative in your home, a valuable asset in your estate and above all a faithful servant and friend which will be true to you to the end of time.
This clock will be packed very very carefully to insure a safe delivery and the buyer is to pay $19.50 for shipping and ins. I will gladly answer any emails promptly. I have always hated that “reserve” when I have bid myself so this fine clock has no reserve and a very very (gulp) low starting bid. We love these clocks and I will be glad to help you set up your new clock, or answer questions long after the sale via email.
