SCARCE SHARP 1940 VINT 23J GRADE 540 ELGIN BW RAYMOND RR

SCARCE SHARP 1940 VINT 23J GRADE 540 ELGIN BW RAYMOND RR

SCARCE Presented is a very handsome example of the scarce 23J Elgin “B.W. Raymond” model in a great screw back and bezel yellow gold filled case, with a nice Montgomery enamel dial and great running very high grade movement. The lever set open face movement is a somewhat scarce Grade 540 (only 10000 produced) that is a 16 ‘s with 23 jewels, featuring the high grade and desirable motor barrel as well as nice bright straight line nickle damaskeened plates with black filled lettering, gold jewel settings, gold train wheels and gold balance screws. It was just recently cleaned and serviced and it runs great. It is marked “B.W. Raymond Elgin Nat’l Watch Co. U.S.A. Adjusted 5 Positions Temperture Motor Barrel 23 Jewels” and bears the serial number 39519242. The overall condition is nice with just a touch of oxydation on the regulator, evident in the images. The Montgomery single sunk enamel dial is in very nice condition with no issues that I can find. This nice dial features bold numbers, red 5 minute numbers in the minute track and a sub second bit at the 6 position. Signed “Elgin” in block. Nice, very decent original bold blued steel hands. The super bold, super railroady yellow gold filled case is in really nice condition, with both bezels screwing on and off properly, no dents or dings and no wearthru that I can find. It features a coin edge motif on the edges of the bezels, has a real stiff bow, and is signed “Star Watch Case Co. 10KT. Gold Filled”. As a last word, I also want to mention that I’ve installed a new super nice beveled edge glass crystal. Scarce 23J Motor Barrel B.W. Raymond railroad.
