This wonderful watch dates to 1878. It winds, sets, ticks, repeats, and the independent seconds operates as well. The repeater is operated by a recessed slide in the band. The independent seconds is operated by a button in the band. You wind the watch counter clockwise and you wind the train for independent seconds by turning the opposite direction. The hands are nail or pin set and this should always be done by moving the hands clockwise.
This hefty watch weighs 167.7 grams! Diameter is 55mm. It has gold screw down jewel settings. A diamond endstone on the balance. It is a high grade watch! The plain polish case has no damage – just some normal smoothing and scratches from pocket wear and handling. The covers open and close correctly and do not open past 90 degrees. The hinges are tight and the bow still stays where you put it. The dial has a couple very thin hairlines that aren’t easy to see. At present the watch is keeping time. I have not cleaned it or oiled it. That will likely need to be done down the road if you use this with regularity.
