Here we have one of Zenith’s most highly sought after table radios. The gorgeous 1939 model 5-S-319 Long Distance radio. Branded the ’Racetrack’, for its unique dial shape, this beautiful set features a stunning walnut cabinet, spectacular ‘racetrack’ dial, zebra stripe inlay, wrap around grill, pushbutton tuning, and exceptional performance on the AM broadcast and shortwave bands.

Cabinet: The Art Deco style streamlined cabinet is simply stunning. Beautiful wood grain runs throughout the entire set. The wrap around grill makes for a real Art Deco look and allows for optimal sound from the side mounted speaker. Dark walnut trim adds depth, elegance and the perfect contrast. An eye catching zebra stripe inlay runs from top to bottom, on the right side of the cabinet. The set also retains its band selector decal just above the right knob. Quite a stunning radio that’s in a class all its own. You’ll be the envy of all with this beauty proudly displayed in any room of your home or office.

The Cabinet’s Finish: All of our radio cabinets undergo a vigorous restoration process. Our goal is to maintain the natural beauty of the wood and grain, while providing a deep luster and shine. We achieve this by using a minimum 12 coats of Mohawk brand lacquers and toners. We use a nitrocellulose piano lacquer which is applied through a professional HVLP turbine spray system in a climate controlled room. Nitrocellulose lacquer is very thin. We also apply very thin coats. This allows the lacquer to seep into the grain and not cover it up. A 1000, 2000, & 4000 grit wet sanding follows every third coat. The cabinet is finished off with a three step polishing process ending with an Oz glaze rub. During the restoration process on this radio, a couple repairs were made to the grill bars. They have been blended, as has the normal crackling to the inlay been blended. As you can see, nothing that detracts from the beauty of the set. Many hours of work are put into these radios, but as you can see, the final outcome is a beautiful, natural looking cabinet with gorgeous luster & shine. Our radios are a great piece of history that come to you ready to proudly display, as well as listen to, in any room of the home or office.

Dial/Knobs: This is Zenith’s desirable ‘Racetrack’ dial. The large, lighted oval shape resembles a racetrack, thus the nickname. All broadcast and shortwave bands are represented by a unique font that makes for an elegant look. This dial is in perfect condition as is the dial glass. The large gold ’Z’ pointer turns nice and smooth across the dial. The brass escutcheon is in great shape. All four ivory ‘Z’ knobs are in and work as they should; on/off & volume, tone, tuning, and band switch. All five pushbuttons are also in and are fully functional. It is however, recommended that you use the tuning knob due to the age and delicacy of the automatic tuning mechanism.

Electronics/Chassis:Zenith’s famous 5 tube copper chassis has been electronically restored and plays great. All caps, filters, and resistors have been checked and replaced as needed. All tubes have been tested and brittle wires replaced. The chassis has been cleaned, lubed and re-aligned for optimal performance. Unbelievable reception with these Long Distance Zenith sets. I‘m able to pick up many stations, up and down the dial, with room filling volume and deep rich tone on the AM broadcast and shortwave bands. I wil include a 30 day warranty on the tubes, caps and filters.
