The 156251 serial number of this watch dates it from about 1881. This is an 18s, Model 2, full plate, key wind, and lever set. It is not running. I see no issues with the balance wheel, but the movement refuses to advance. This is a fairly large watch. The movement measures about 44mm across, the entire watch in case measures about 2-3/8 inches across. The entire watch in case weighs 6.4 ounces. The porcelain face is in Roman numerals with sunken seconds dial at the bottom. Note slight impact damage to the face and several radiating cracks at the 3 o’clock position. Dial reads “Willit & Rankin Olathe, Kan.” The movement reads “Rockford Watch Co. Patent Pinion Rockford Illinois 156251.” The case has two rear doors and outer and inner one. The inside of the outer case reads: ” Invisible Joint Case Co. Coin Silver 5798,” and there are numerous jeweler service marks. The inside of the inner case reads: “Patented Nov. 8, 1883, 4 [in a diamond] 5798,” and I am not totally sure of that date. The 5798 case serial number also appears on the rim of the case, visible when the rear doors are opened.
