This is an fine looking Antique and Classic Navajo Saddle Blanket – made with Churro Wools and from about 1930 (1920-1940). The pattern incorporates the traditional banded design form the even older Transitional Wearing Blankets with multiple thick and thinner parallel bands. This Saddle Blanket is interesting to look at due the variety of bands, including the “barber shop pole” designs which seem to give the blanket motion. This blanket is thin and refined, yet very tightly woven to endure, a very durable classic utilitarian Navajo Weaving and worthy of investing in. The wools appear to be Churro – there is a nice looking hand carded grey, white and black as well as an incredible natural beige/brown hand spun/carded wool. The red is hand spun and carded wool, hand dyed with a brilliant Red Aniline Dye obtained from the Trading Posts of the time. Overall a really fine Navajo Textile, a beautiful looking piece of Native America and a fine collectible. This is old Navajo Blanket from the Navajo Reservation in Excellent condition for age!!!

The approximate size of this textile is approximately 44″ X 26″, with a hand spun Wool Warp of 10 and a Wool Weft of about 30, a tight, sturdy and very strong weave – an expertly and beautifully constructed piece (100% wool)!
CONDITION: NO Moth nibbles/grazing to wool weft, NO Fading, NO worn/tired wool (all wool in with luster and sheen), NO Bleeding of colors, NO holes, NO stains. Excellent condition (please see pics)! SELVAGE: Side Selvage warps are 100% intact-with no loss or damage. The End Selvage Cords are 100% intact/present, a braid of two, 2-ply fine red wool yarns. The corners are present and in excellent shape, and the corner ties are present but mostly worn due to time/use (see pic. of corners).
