Hickory Wood Shaft Hackbarth Patent Golf Putter Vintage Old Unusual Antique

Hickory  Very good condition hickory wooden shaft patented forked hosel putter with an aluminum head. Club made by Otto Hackbarth. Stampings on the sole are still clear and read, “Otto Hackbarth Pat. 687539”. This is sometimes called a ‘coathanger’ style putter and was the first of its kind. This is the model with the brass inlay in the sole, much harder to find than the leaded sole models. This brass inlay is really a beautiful feature. The soft aluminum club head has light bag marks, but less than is often found on such clubs. No hosel cracks or tine cracks, no repairs!! Wooden shaft is almost certainly an original and is without chips or cracks. The shaft remains straight. 35 inches in total club length. Grip is a nice old intact 12 inch leather wrap. Grip could well be the original and the leather isn’t dried out. Very hard to find brass sole inlay example. More can be read about this club in the book, The Club Makers Art, page 180.
