EXQUISITE ANTIQUE 1800’S VICTORIAN BLACK CHANTILLY LACE OVER LILAC SILK DRESS

EXQUISITE

Exquisite turn of the century Black Chantilly Lace &
Tucked silk chiffon over lilac silk Victorian dress ~!

For restoration or display, I have an absolutely gorgeous late 1800’s , early 1900’s Victorian evening dress. The workmanship and the unique attention to detail tells us this was a very expensive dress in it’s day. The skirt body is a heavy black silk. Silk chiffon which has been beautiful diamond tucked falls nicely over the dress skirt. Four wide belts of exquisite lilac silk decorate the skirt, 2 in front and 2 in back. Each is beautifully embroidered & has lovely black Chantilly lace appliques. The ends of the belts are trimmed in 10 inch hand tied silk fringe. The dress has a matching cumberbun. The V bodice front is trimmed in matching lilac silk with the bodice front and back being covered in gorgous black lace. Each sleeve is a puff of lace as well. The tight fitting sleeve cuffs also feature matching lilac silk with silk ribbon embellishment. The cuffs edges are trimmed in handmade lace with remnants of black silk chiffon overlay. This is a most exquisite display piece of Victorian clothing….but it is a display piece and is too fragile to wear. The lilac silk is in farily good condition and is not badly shattering like most seen from this era. The interior bodice is a black silk, but I believe there was an ecru lace at one time to match the sleeve cuffs…perhaps a ruffled lace jabot of some sort. There is some silk chiffon tearing here and there about the bodice and sleeves. Once again….this will display nicely and you won’t be able to tell because of the black lace. There is also silk chiffon tears in the sleeves and the chiffon around the lace cuff is pretty damaged. On the lower dress you will need to do some stitching to pin some chiffon back in place along the waist. The belt will hide this unsew, pinned  area if you are not a sewer. The lower skirt’s hemline features bands of horizontal pleating…some of the stitches have let go so you may want to resew. The dress hemline is rolled then little silk chiffon rosettes have been applied. A section of the rolled hemline has torn, so I would suggest cutting off completely. This does need restoration…so please do not expect perfection. Being sold as-is. In an effort to discourage those bidders that just look at the pretty photos and do not read the part that clearly says
“It cannot be worn…” I am not providing measurements. Please, please, please….don’t place a bid then ask to return saying “I can’t wear it….”
