Antique Wood Flute by Fritz Mallach

Antique Wood Flute by Fritz Mallach

Antique

For sale is a very nice wood flute from the workshop of Fritz Mallach of the well known (?) village of Kaiserslautern.  Although this name was unknown to me, it appears that Fritz was well taught.  This flute, which I feel dates from around 1900 to 1910, is extremely well made and in very sound condition.  The pads were replaced not too long ago and seal well.  The body looks to be made of grenadilla wood, and the keys and mechanism are nickel silver. This flute is different in that the body has a special tenon receiver made speciallty for a metal headjoint (or wood head with a metal tenon).  In addition, the headjoint has a winged “reform” embouchure that looks intimidating but really is pretty easy to play.  The sounding length is around 608mm, normal for that period, so the flute will play at around a=432 to a=435.  On the other hand, this flute has a very strong voice, particularly in the lower octave, something a bit unusual for a wood flute.  This really is a fun flute to play and will give the flutist a chance to learn how to adjust to a totally different kind of embouchure.

Comes with what looks like the original case in pretty decent condition for its age of more than 100 years!
