Antique Victorian 9ct Solid Gold Engine Turned 10 Stone Diamond Ring 1965 5.4g
This is for an old Victorian style 9ct solid gold engine turned 10 stone diamond ring, by D & BS, hallmarked Birmingham 1965.
The ring shank is made of 9ct yellow gold, and has a raised band around the centre, which is decorated with engine-turned engraving, and with ten chased open-back settings, each set with a diamond. The diamonds are round cut, and each measures 1.2 mm in width, for a total diamond weight of approximately 0.10 carat. The diamonds are well matched, and each has a clear hue, which I would grade around ‘I-J’, and all have a very good eye clean clarity, which I would grade around ‘SI1-SI2’, with a few small inclusions showing under a loupe, there are no chips, breaks, scratches or other blemishes.
The inside of the ring shank is hallmarked ‘9’ ‘.375’ to denote 0.375 purity solid gold, the anchor town mark for Birmingham, the date letter ‘Q’ for 1965, and the makers mark ‘D & BS’. The inside diameter of the ring shank measures 18mm, which is a UK size ‘ P 1/2 ‘ or US size ‘8 1/2’, this could be adjusted by a jeweller. The ring weighs 5.41 grams. The condition is generally excellent, without damage or repair, the gold has light surface wear, which is the patina of age. Please see images.
