Antique
Tambour Style Crochet Hook
English
* 1848 Patent
This antique
crochet hook is carved of cow bone and has a clever design that
allows for the
changing of hook sizes. The front nozzle unscrews and has a hole at the
tip. The hooks have pin style tops so that when one is dropped into the
nozzle it stops at the end. It becomes secure when the nozzle is
screwed back onto the handle with the hook in place.
The top
unscrews and
there’s a compartment beneath to store other hook sizes (there are 4
steel hooks). The patent marks are mostly rubbed or were never properly
struck on the nozzle. The marks would have read “J. Coney Regisd 6 Oct
’48”. I’ve shown what the marks would have been. Only part of the word
“regisd” is still visable on this hook.
It’s
in
great working condition and the bone has no
chips, cracks or other damage. It measures 5 1/2″ long with the hook in
place. The photos at the bottom show the marks that should have been on
this hook.
I stand behind
everything that I offer and guarantee that it is exactly as
presented.
