Superb Chinese Export Silver Cigarette Case Box Dragon

is this gorgeous Chinese
export silver handmade cigarette case decorated on one side with a dragon
blowing fire in the clouds, and on the other side with village scenery of
houses, trees, mountains and people. All detailed repousse and engraving on
hummer stippled background. The details are amazing – from the dragon’s face
and scales to the child’s face and the tree leaves. Clearly made by a master
silversmith. The inside of the case is gilded and still has the elastic black bands
across for holding the cigarettes in place, though they lost their elasticity
long ago. On the scenery side there is also a shield for a monogram, without a
monogram.
This exquisite case is marked inside, on the bar that
holds the clasp, in Chinese and with the English letters NM (please see photo). It measures about 3 1/2″ X 2 1/2″ X height 1/2″; and weights about 75gr. There are some ding/shallow
dents on the corners, some light scratching and the two sides don’t align completely,
though clasp works and closes the case. These all are in accordance with age
and use and overall this fantastic case is in a very good antique used
condition. What a find!
