is a magnificent antique Simon & Halbig German bisque head & composition jointed body Santa, child doll. A little history on the doll first……This doll belonged to a shoe maker who owned a shop in Nickels Arcade in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He brought this doll to the United States with him when he moved from Germany as a child. Then doll was then sold and bought by a woman in the 1950’s and was used a display piece. This doll is over 100 years old, and has had 3 owners – the shoe maker – the woman who purchased the doll – and then her daughter who it was passed down to. The daughter said she believes everything is original – neither she or her mother did any repairs.
This gorgeous doll as stated above has a bisque socket head with a composition jointed body. There are some signs of wear around the ball joints – the finish around the edges have some small chips and crackling. For it’s age it is in extremely good condition! She has lovely blue inset glass eyes, with painted eyelashes and feathered brows. She has an open mouth with 4 teeth. She has a swivel head and molded ears which are pierced. She has real soft hair. Both her hands and feet have red outlines to detail her nail beds. On each side of her head is a sparkly barrette comb. She is marked on the back 1249 DEP Germany. The other clothing is in good condition overall with minimal wear. The “soles” of her shoes are coming off and will need to be re-glued.
She is approx 32″ long in total, her arms are approx 12″ long, her legs are approx 13″ long, her feet are approx 4″ long.
