ANTIQUE SCHOENHUT BLACK AFRICAN NEGRO SAFARI FIGURE

ITEM DESCRIPTION:
Schoenhut Black African Negro Safari Figure.
Approximately 8 inches tall.
Circa early 1900s vintage.
From the estate of an elderly gentleman who passed away in the mid-1970s.
Age-related wear is evident.
Belt and waist pack are brittle. Cloth is soiled or age-darkened. Stringing is stretched and loose.
From what I can determine through online resources, this appears to be a Schoenhut Native Chief figure from the Teddy Roosevelt’s Adventures in Africa set issued by Schoenhut around 1909 – 1912. This guess is based on the belt the figure is wearing and the playing card pattern of the waist sash. If this is accurate, the figure is missing a hat, which explains the wire protruding from the top of the head.

Other than the information I have discovered online, I know almost nothing about Schoenhut figures. I am hoping that this fine adventurous fellow will find a new home with an appreciative collector who can properly preserve and safely display him.
