Antique German Porcelain Souvenir PORTAGE POINT INN, PORTAGE LAKE, ONEKAMA MICH. for Smith Dept Store
Up for bid is an antique porcelain creamer / cream pitcher made as a souvenir from the Portage Inn on Portage Lake in Onekama Mich. The front shows an old colorized scene of the grand hotel, with a caption below.
The underside is marked MADE IN GERMANY in circle. Markings also read: Made and Imported for Smith Dept. Store Onekama, Mich.
Piece measures approx 3 1/2″ high.
Condition: It is without chips, cracks, nicks or dings. The writing on caption appears light and has possibly faded but is still legible. There is also some rubbing wear on gold trim lines, mostly at spout. Smudge on back side is bit of stray color from when piece was made. NOTE: gold border around image has minimal wear. Photo shows glare and reflection which looks like wear when it is NOT.
Should be a very nice find for those collecting vintage souvenirs from Manistee County MI. FYI: Portage Point Inn opened as a summer resort in 1903. It was a popular vacation retreat for families from cities of Chicago and Milwaukee. Passenger steamer ships and eventually railroads brought customers to enjoy minerals springs and scenic beach. By 1914 steamers from the Northern Michigan Transportation Company and the Pere Marquette Line stopped at the resort’s dock. I would date this piece to sometime in that period – circa 1903 to the 1920s.

This means to ship to California and other west coast states costs MORE than to ship to nearby neighboring states such as PA, NJ, VA etc. We will combine shipping on multiple purchases. If package turns out a little bit lighter that expected, and shipping is less than calculator estimate, this difference was not intentional. We do not charge a handling fee.
