Artists Watercolour Box ~
Blocks and Pots of Paints
This is a delightful G Rowney & Co. artists, mahogany watercolour box, it has several Rowney watercolour paint blocks.
The box itself is in good order; unfortunately the key has long gone. The interior is just delightful with its original Art Nouveau label, the paint cakes are in "as found" or "used" condition and appear to be original to the box.
Some of the blocks have the remains of the colour name impression to one side and the Rowney crest to other side. The rest of the paints in ceramic pots are of various other makes including Winsor and Newton. One of the small blue lifting tags has broken but the other one is still intact and the paint tray lifts out easily.
It also has its original ceramic mixing palette which is stamped to the base with the Rowney logo. The box where the palette sits is bevelled to one side so it can be tipped and taken out easily.
The box measures 19 cm (7 1/2 inches) long, 14.5 cm (5 1/2 inches) wide and 4 cm (1 1/2 inches) high.
These boxes are now scarce, and it’s nice to find one in such good condition. It has lovely patina that only comes with age and use.
All adds to the boxes character and charm!
The photographs form part of the description; they may be supersized for more detail. Please take a little time to view them. I have tried to show the condition in the photographs. If you require more photographs please ask.
This is such a rare find don’t miss it!!
