Antique Foot Treadle Polishing and Grinding Lathe for Dental or Clocks

Antique Foot Treadle Polishing and Grinding Lathe for Dental or Clocks

Antique  Generally referred to as “dental lathes”, foot treadle polishers were
manufactured by Chicago/ Grout Koelsior. Similar machines were also marketed to jewelers and
other craftsmen.  Two taper screws allow a variety of cleaning and  polishing devises. A
cloth buffing wheel is mounted on the taper screw as one illustration. The spindle bearings
are provided with oil holes. The flywheel
pulley is 17 1/2″ diameter and a second drive pulley is 1 1/2″ diameter. The lathe head is mounted on a 11 1/2″ x 21″ wood table with two drawers. The machine
is 44″ high, allowing comfortable use while standing or sitting on a
high stool. The single “heel and toe” treadle works very well. Another
neat machine for the non- electric shop. My father used this machine in 1947 to polish/ clean clock parts and jewelry before he bought his electric cleaning machine. The unit needs a replacement belt (which is a piece of leather with the ends stapled together). We have baling twine on it now and it works great!  Included in the accessories are containers of pumice, rouge, and troply.
