ANTIQUE CZARIST RUSSIAN 84SILVER CIGAR CASE WITH RAISED IMPERIAL ROMANOV EAGLES

ANTIQUE CZARIST RUSSIAN 84SILVER CIGAR CASE WITH RAISED IMPERIAL ROMANOV EAGLES

ANTIQUE This
auction is for an antique Czarist Russian 84-Silver (0.875-fine) Cigar Case with Imperial Romanov Eagles raised on the obverse & a similarly formatted floral
crest to the reverse; each bezel-set with a small cabochon garnet.  Most articulately hand-wrought & so engraved
by the silversmith PJS, active in St. Petersburgh between 1886-1908
(unidentified master:  Postnikova-Loserva # 1827).  It measures
approx. 4 3/4″ x 2 5/8″ x 1 1/8″ (12.1 x 6.7 x 2.8 cm.) & weighs 5 ozs. 17
dwt 2&4/10 grains, or if you will 182.1 grams; but why think metric?  Likely this most exquisitely crafted case was a prized possession of a long-dead Russian nobleman, possibly himself a Romanov? or perhaps a titled officer in the Czar’s army; & now, with over a hundred years past, it exudes like the silvery cold full moon before Holy Russian Orthodox Easter, an aura regally evocative of those last halcyon days in the lost, dream Russia of Nicholas & Alexandra …. before the deluge.
