Antique Original 1870’s “Willie Apron” Pattern  #587

The envelope glue has dried, but as far as we can tell, the pattern has never been removed. Envelope title reads: Mme. Demorest Maison de Patrons, Haute Noveauté  ~ Paris ~  New York ~  Maisons dans les principales villes d’Europe et d’Amérique. The pattern instructions, in both English and French are printed on the envelope.

Condition: With
scattered losses to the antique envelope after many decades. We HAVE NOT opened & WILL NOT open the envelope, so the item is: AS TAKEN OUT of the cabinet. These pattern envelopes are quite fragile and even the most careful handling causes additional flaking of the paper. We have endeavored to handle each only as much as needed, photographing it and returning it to it’s paper folder. Glassine envelopes have static properties that are a detriment. This will come sealed in its paper folder, put on cardboard, carefully bubble wrapped, and shipped inside a box to prevent further losses in transit.

Some background:
This was purchased from the estate of a collector of antique American textiles. It came out of the wood and cardboard sewing display cabinet seen in the last photo. Patterns fit inside the case sections very snugly, so it appeared to have been custom made for them.  Depending on the style of clothing for the pattern, more than one pattern might fit per section. In the instance of cloaks and circular wraps, only one pattern fit per section. Aprons, infant’s & small sized dress and blouse patterns are thin enough to stack together in a section. The display cabinet and its contents purportedly came from a store in Pennsylvania. The wood display is not part of this auction. It will be the last piece sold.  **Due to the extreme fragile nature of these patterns, returns will not be accepted.**Auctions of our antique patterns will end in 2 minute intervals.
