Beautiful 1800’s Victorian
Bustle back hoop skirt
Entirely sewn by hand!
This auction is for a very pretty striped organza bustle back petticoat hoop skirt. It is harder to find the pastels in Victorian clothing…this is a rare piece! Solid ivories upper skirt with charming vertical pink stripe lower. Lower hemline features a ruffled flounce. This is a charming piece of antique clothing! Early hook & eye closure in back. Tons and tons of gathers in the rear to accomodate your wire cage bustle or hoop skirt frame. In addition there is added organza inside to provide extra puffiness for the bustle area. The follwoing flaws are noted: Skirt has been shortened by 2 inches upper ivories area…see photo. Because Victorian skirts typically had ruffled flounces this is where they would adjust the skirt’s height. There is a mend and a nickle size tear and 3 tiny holes clustered in one side of the lower skirt. There may have been another ruffle as there is a line of tiny thread holes on one hip side of the ivories organza. See photos for flaws. This fabric is very hardy and this can easily be worn. You can also use this very early Victorian fabric to make antique doll clothing as there is quite a bit of yardage. This is a lovely skirt with the following measurements:
Waist: 22 inches
Mid front waist to lower hemline: 35 inches
Mid back to lower hemline: 40 inches…it is longer in the rear because it would have gone over a bustle.
For serious collectors of 1800’s clothing, this hand sewn pink striped bustle skirt is a must have ….exceptional antique fabric!
