Important Antique 1840s American Folk Art Oil Painting, President Andrew Jackson
…… After a long search on the internet, looking at every painting and engraving of Andrew Jackson (1765-1845), I can easily guarantee that the American Folk Art Painting in the auction is unique and an original painting of our 7th President and not after another work of art. This painting is an original Andrew Jackson Portrait Painting and if you look at the last photographs you will see his name is painted on the back of the canvas. You can also see that the 24 ¾” by 30 ¾” wood stretcher is held together with hand forged iron T-Nails, so this painting has to be from the early 19th century. Hand painted in a classic American Folk Art style this oil painting depicts a strong Andrew Jackson with piercing eyes. I took a close look at the painting under a black light and I found some old invisible inpainting just around the top part of the eyelids and on the top of his hand. The rest of this painting is perfect. Measuring 31” by 37” the painted Walnut Frame has some wear and there is chipping to gesso on the inner gilt fillet frame. There is no artist signature on this circa 1840s American Folk Art Oil Painting of Old Hickory and you will find it is listed without any reserve.
