French natural history book, dated 1766.
Quite frankly, the cover of the book photographed well and does not look as good as it does in my photo…the gold around the border was picked up well with the flash; it does not reflect so brightly in person.
The cover is chipping, especially on the back and spine edges…both front and back covers are very loose and with very little effort, they could come off! There is an old book plate on the inside marbled back of the front cover…and, a name written in on the title page (see photos above.)
Pages are age discolored, as you can see on the same plates. One of the plate pages has some chipping to its edge..I have corrected a couple of dog ears – but, the visible bend remains.
There is chipping to the spine covering as well – more so on the top that did not show up well in the photo above.
