I have been an avid collector for just about thirty years.Unfortunately I am having to sell off most of my collection, and hope the new owner will love and treasure them as much.DescriptionThis is a very old and attractive pique brooch inset with and flowers, swags and a honeycomb decoration. I think it is made from tortoiseshell, although I cannot be certain as don’t know how to test to be sure, so I will describe for you; it looks black but when held up to the light is is a deep orangery reddish colour, when tapped on teeth it does not feel like glass or metal. The metal pique work looks like silver and rose gold however it may just be silver and rose gold coated and not solid as there are no hallmarks to be seen on the brooch, the pin in silver tone base metal. The work gone into this when it was made is incredible but well worth it for the stunning effect when worn, it is very striking.It is round and measures approx 32mm / 3.2cm / 1.25” across and weighs approx 5.9g.ConditionThis item is not perfect, *please note that there is one single silver flower missing, all the rest of the pique work is intact and in good order. There has had a break at some point in time at the hinge end of the brooch but has been fixed,(you may want to redo this as the job is not a particularly tidy one but it is wearable), there is some surface cracking to the underside of the brooch but these do not show at the front and they don’t seem to threaten the structure, it could also do with a clean.Payment, postage and returnsPlease pay shortly after the auction, by Paypal or cheque, and your item will be posted once your payment has cleared.
