Our family in Canada brought this frame to us and requested we sell. It was found in an attic many years ago in Nova Scotia along with two other frames (one is matching) that we are also listing.

From what we were told, the frames and photos were probably crafted in one of the western provinces, most likely BC, and then soon taken to Nova Scotia by the family members (The young couple the portraits depict.). The date of 1910 is written on the back of the frame as well as something that indicates the portrait was done for barter.

The portrait is a hand-tinted photograph with excellent color.

The Gesso on Wood frame measures 19″ wide by 25″ high. It weighs 6 lbs. The glass is original bubble glass.

No cleaning, restoration or any alteration has been done and the patination is genuine.

We’ve included photos of the various defects. If you look at the other matching frame we have listed, the additional photos there will give you an even better idea of the condition and patination.

The glass is in . The additional photos show the various defects, from scrapes to hairline cracks. We did additional sharpening and raised the contrast to make them easier to see. When viewed while hanging on a wall, the defects are not as obvious.

On this particular picture frame, there are two minor, very thin original bubbles in the glass, roughly 1/2″ long and perhaps 1/32″ wide. They are difficult to notice, but you’ll see them during a close inspection. There’s also a very minor scratch in the middle of the glass, roughly an inch long, but again, difficult to notice unless you give it a close inspection.

The wide scrape where the gesso is exposed is on the right side and is 2″ long. The decoration with the small missing chip is on the bottom.
