This is a big antique solid sterling silver souvenir spoon from Angels Camp, located in Calaveras County in Northern California, probably from about 1905 or so. More details, including length and weight, below. It does have some minor condition issues, so please be sure to read about that below.
The bowl is hand-engraved with a very detailed mining scene of the “Lightner Hoist and Mill, Angels, Cal.”
The spoon itself has a detailed, heavily molded California State handle, front and back.
Length: It is about 5-3/4″ long.
No other engraving than the bowl.
Maker’s marks: It is marked with the word “Sterling” on the back of the handle, along with the old H in a pennant hallmark for Watson, a Massachusetts company that made very good quality items.
Condition: The bowl is in good condition with a little light surface scratching and a bit of tarnish here and there, not much. However, the rest of the spoon has quite a bit of tarnish and darkening of the surface and some light surface scratching. I do not know if this will polish off or not. If it bothers the winner, it could possibly be buffed, but no guarantees. It really isn’t that bad, but I did want to mention it.
It weighs about 26.0 grams or .92 ounce (.83 Troy oz.) on my digital point scale.
