ANOTHER GREAT ESTATE AUCTION FIND !
Up for grabs is remarkable vintage black & white red velvet photo album – some of the photos may be tin type?
Album dates back to the late 1800’s – early 1900’s Victorian. The condition of this album is amazing – the velvet is almost in perfect condition except for some slight wear on the corners & edges which is normal for how old it is ( See photos) No rips – stains or bald spots. The spine binding is in great consition and still firm with no freying or rips. The metal clasp closure still reflects like a mirror and has no rusting or greening that I could find.
The pages inside are also in great condition – only 2 pages have rips in the paper where the photos slide in and 1 page with a rip at the top corner where the photo slides in. These photos are in the book snuggly as they should be. There are 18 pages total and the album holds 48 photos in all. There are 15 photos in all measuring 6-1/2 inches x 4-1/2 inches which there are 12 of and 3 photos that measure just over 2-1/2 x 4 inches. All photos are cabinet photos and I did ask if these were ALL original photos and I was told yes. There is normal wear and aging on the pages with very slight discoloration. There may be an aging spot on a few of the pages.
The back of the album cover on the outside also have 4 little prong feet.
Album measures 8-1/2 x 10-1/2 x 2-1/2 inches.
Along with the photo album, in the back of it were 6 loose watercolor pieces of art work that look to have been done by someone in the family. Each watercolor painting measures 10×7 inches. You can truely see the artistic charm and time that went into each picture.
This album is full of memories and exhibits to the fullest the simpiler times that we now in our everyday hectic lives forgot about. The velvet album alone displays great workman ship and elegance that the crafter took great pride in.
