Antique German Bisque Heinrick Handwerck Doll
This beautiful German bisque doll is by the renowned firm of Heinrich Handwerck- and she’s just a stunner of a little cabinet child– you can see at a glance why this firm stood in such high regard!
Marked “H 79-3X Germany, 3/0” she is circa early 1890s, and made as a response to the fine French bisques of the day. Alas, we must tell you upfront that she is not perfect- she has a fine hairline running through both cheeks, with a smaller hairline at her left eyelid. That being said, the hairlines are stable, and are practically invisible- they simply wouldn’t even photograph well.
A wee 10″ tall, she is perfectly
proportioned, and her head, in this cabinet size, is quite finely and delicately
modeled. She really has a lovely and very well
painted light complexioned socket head, with her original threaded paperweight working sleep eyes; these are a very startling light blue and very well matched. She has a delicately painted very pale pink open mouth
with tiny teeth, and well rounded cheeks with very pale pink blush and a turned-up chin. She has both upper and lower lashes painted. She has fashionably thick multistroke brown eyebrows, and faint red eye and nostril dots. And- most rare in a cabinet child this size- she has finely pierced ears, with tiny sparkly pink earrings!
She has a later auburn wig with curls that suits her well, and is correct for the period. Her socket body and limbs are a later artist’s reproduction, marked “Vernon Seeley, {?}2481”; this has light paint crackling but no chips or cracks. No missing fingers or thumbs.
Her vintage white dress with little French ribbon bow is circa 1960s or so, as are her pantaloons, stockings, matching pink shoes and artist-made straw hat; the whole effect is of a Renoir girl, very pretty!
All in all, a really pretty and elegant Handwerck child- she’s not perfect but then who is!
Please check our other auctions, as we have a small but select group of other vintage items and antique dolls up for auction this week!
Happy Bidding with Marionettejilly!!
A Word About Vintage Items:
Marionettejilly
endeavors to be accurate with our descriptions- but we aren’t perfect, and we
may have missed something that’s important to you– so ask before an auction
ends! We sell mostly vintage and antique items, with wear and the ravages of
time as to be expected. Do not expect such vintage items to be in new or like
new condition- many of our items are fragile, played with, and many are over
100 years old. Use your own good common sense, and expect an item to have a
unique patina and history all its own- with imperfections inherent in antique
pieces!
Our shipping represents not only postage
but also time, gas, packing materials, and, as of July 2011, the 7.5%
Final Value Fee that website charges to shipping.
Due to these increases, we are no longer able to do exact postage
shipping, and we do not barter about shipping once an item has ended; domestic
shipping is clearly stated within the auction listing. Most items will be
shipped within three business days of payment, and all packages are
hand-delivered by us to the Post Office.
Refund Policy:
If you
are unhappy with any item, it may of course be returned for a full refund of
purchase price within ten days of original shipping date. We do not pay return shipping.
PLEASE NOTE THAT WE DO
NOT OFFER PARTIAL REFUNDS FOR ANY REASON.
There are no exceptions
to this policy, and we will report unscrupulous buyers.
New
Information: Starting
in July 2011, website charges 7.5% Final Value Fees to both the final auction price
AND shipping; please accept our apologies for the higher shipping, particularly
to our international customers. We ship most items anywhere in the world.
Yes, we will combine shipping on
multiple wins. Combined auctions, no matter how
small, are a minimum of an additional $1.00 per added auction, for up to six
items; in the case of larger items, such as dolls, shipping will be adjusted
according to weight of the total package.
Payment
Terms: Payment is due within 7 days of end of auction; ten
days after an s, we automatically inform website of all nonpaying
bidders. We do not have layaway.
One Last Final Thing: We are not a big ol’
corporation. We are actually pretty nice folks, with an interest in antiques,
fighting upstream against inflation and the economy just like everyone else. So
if you have a problem with an item we’ve sent, just sit back, take a deep
breath, and tell us about it calmly. We have not set out to scam you. Chill.
All the above rules are just because a couple of folks in the past decided to
be meanies. We know you’re not like that- we certainly aren’t.
