Vintage Amish Puzzle Ball Pincushion
Hi and Welcome
I bought this old pincushion a long time ago at an auction here in Ohio. The rich colored, velvet or velveteen fabrics are in great condition with just a little sign of use. It had some broken seams and missing buttons so I finally gave it the redo it deserved.
I took the sections apart and restitched where the sections are joined and added matching, vintage buttons from my stash. I reinforced the broken seams and embroidered pretty, herringbone stitches on all of the seams using hand dyed, charcoal color, Valdani, pearl cotton thread. The sections are filled very, very firm with natural, kapok fibers and I think it could be 50 to 75 years old. (maybe older?)
Usually these balls have 12 sections to make it a completed sphere but this one has 8 so it sits nice and flat on your sewing table or shelf. It measures 5 inches in diameter and about 4″ tall.
I’m including a few of my hand dyed pins for you, too.

I would love to hear from you and all questions are welcomed and should be asked before bidding as all sales are final unless I have made an error in my description.
